Kadavar - Kadavar (2012): By well-known seas.

A big ship that only sails in calm routes; never daring divert its original track and just stopping in the safeties harbors. Yes, if Kadavar was a ship, this would be a good description.

Moved by past winds, the group from Berlin makes a very consistent Stoner Rock. In their mast is possible to see a Black Sabbath’s flag (obviously, Kadavar’s main influence). The old carcass of the boat hides a modern technology that allows sailing with great performance.

However, it seems to be not enough. All this kind of safety and tranquility produce a feeling of emptiness. There’s no punch and no adrenalin. Kadavar always make the same routes and this fact may leave some crew a little bit bored.

Inspired or stuck in the past?

That’s the way. You can’t say Kadavar is poor but something misses. The album starts with a powerful riff, repeating itself during the track. This structure of the first track goes until the end of the album. There’s no variability and the sensation you got is: If listened one music, you’ve listened everything. There is no much originality too. Obviously, the main idea was make a sound inspired in the seventies. However, they got stuck in this concept.

I appreciate more two songs: Black Sun and Creature of the Demon. The group has only three members, and technically they’re amazing. The bass is well highlighted in some transition moments, with a positive and interesting effect. Some solos and instrumental jams are very nice too, without runarounds!

If you don’t know the group, it’s worth to take a look! Those guys released a video clip of the track Goddess of Dawn, to see it click here. It’s almost funny!
Enjoy them. And try to see one video that they’re live… You’ll see the truth: Live they roll up!

“She rises from my dreams; the creature of the demon.”
